Simply Sunday: Simple Spotlighting Technique

Hello Stampin’ Friends ~

Hope you’re enjoying your weekend. It’s been nice here lately but rain is in the forecast for today, so it’s a good day to stamp.  If you’re looking for a quick way to make cards with your designer paper and want to add a pop of fun, I love the “Spotlighting” technique! When using your designer papers, there’s no coloring or fuss at all. (Although I do love to color)!

Today I’m using the Bird Ballad Designer paper from the Bird Ballad Suite / Free As A Bird Bundle.  I teamed that up with the Layering Square Framelits (the Stitched Nested Labels Dies come in the suite/bundle).  I also used the Free As A Bird stamp set for my greeting …

To create the spotlighting “with no wasted designer paper” simply cut your designer paper at 4″ x 5-1/4″ … this will give you a nice boarder around your designer paper.  Lay your designer paper onto your die cutter and cut out your desired image, you can see here that I am using the bird to “spotlight” on my card.

Then I simply die cut a coordinating piece of cardstock … I used Early Espresso for my base and mat behind my spotlighted area.  When you place your die cut bird directly from your designer paper and then put it right back in it’s place with a mat behind it … it spotlights that image. Do you see how the images on the cut piece still line up with the images on the background?  Cool right? And Simple.

I love using this technique on our patterned papers that have fun and interesting images.  The spotlighting technique can also be used on your stamped images, and I can share that with you tomorrow!

Thank you for taking time out of your Sunday to visit with me. Hope you found this card helpful and that it inspires you to create some quick -n- easy cards.

Enjoy the rest of your day ~

With Father’s Day right around the corner, I knew another masculine card was in order.  Today’s card also comes from the Come Sail Away suite and works perfectly when your sending encouragement …

My background has one of the designs for the Come Sail Away Designer Series paper and is adhered to the Night of Navy card base.  My lighthouse is stamped with Night of Navy on Whisper White cardstock.  I used the coordinating Balmy Blue cardstock to pull the color out of the designer paper and stamped the greeting onto it, then cut it out with the coordinating die that is included in the bundle.

Also included in the suite are the Bakers Twine and Sail Away Trinkets which really tie the whole card together and works nice to attach my anchor!

Hello Stampin’ Friends ~

Happy Friday to you!! Today I have a really cute card to share with you that was created with the Free As A Bird Bundle from the Bird Ballad product suite. If you’ve been on the look out for a great “friend” stamp set, this will most likely be on your Wish List already!  It represents a group of friends and the sentiments are so sweet. If you haven’t see it yet, here it is …

Don’t you think the birds in the Free As A Bird Stamp Set are so cuuuute! Send them to all your friends because you know they deserve it!! And pretty cards are so much more fun than bills in the mailbox … this is sure to cheer someone up or just let them know how much you appreciate them ❤

Today’s card was a swap card from the Stampin’ Up! Leadership event I attended in Terra Haute, Indiana.  I am so sorry that I don’t have the demonstrators name who created this cute card …

I love the introduction of the new catalog … it’s crazy fun! There is so much to share with you.  You will be seeing more of this bundle from me … it will be featured at my Kick Off party which is in the works right now, and probably a class so I can show you a few fun techniques that pair well with this stamp set.

She used the Stitched Nested Labels Dies which is part of the bundle, along with the beautiful Layered Leaves 3-D folder … and you can’t miss the polka dot ribbon, it really ties the card together.

I wish you a wonderful weekend.  I will be in Door County doing a little “planning” and having a little fun!

Come Sail Away …

Hello Stampin’ Friends ~

Looking for a unique Graduation Card? Today I have a card to share with you that would work perfectly for a graduation or a new job.  It’s the perfect solution if your recipient loves to sail, enjoys boating or just being on the water … the Come Sail Away Suite!  You will find this suite in the new catalog (and if you need one, let me know) and it’s sure to be your new “go to” stamp set for masculine or water lovin’ friends once you see all the different elements included in this suite.

Whether you’re looking for a graduation card or you want to send your friend some summer fun, you will find this suite on pages 144 – 146. Page 145 has all the bundle and all the fun elements included in the suite.  Did you know you can now purchase an entire suite with just one item number?  …. Sweet!

My background has one of the designs for the Come Sail Away Designer Series paper and is adhered to the Night of Navy card base.  My sail boat and greeting are both stamped with Night of Navy on Sahara Sand cardstock.  I used the coordinating Balmy Blue cardstock to pull the color out of the designer paper and embossed it with the “High Seas” 3D Embossing Folder that is included in the suite and adds texture to the card.

Also included in the suite are the Bakers Twine and Sail Away Trinkets which embellish the card so nicely.  The bakers twine ties the colors together and the “helm” or “ships steering wheel” adds some fun dimension to the card and ties nicely with the greeting which was die cut using the circle dies.

The lighthouse and birds were stamped on the inside of the card to create a little interest when writing your note.  Besides … I love lighthouses!!

Thank you for joining me today, hope yours is a good one.

See you tomorrow ~

It’s Your Day … Masculine Card

Hello Stampin’ Friends ~

Wow … those weekends sure go fast!  I hope you had a chance to check out my Simply Sunday post that featured “A Good Man” stamp set.  Truth is, this is the same stamp set I will be using today!  I’m stepping it up from the simplicity of yesterdays card and adding some more dimension and interest to the card. This card is inspired by my brothers upcoming birthday.

I wanted to layer some of the handsome designer paper from the catalog … the Come Sail Away is very masculine and compliments this stamp set nicely (I used it yesterday too).  To me, there is nothing more relaxing that sitting on a beach or cliff side over looking the water so I added a nautical touch to my card.  I went with a monochromatic style as well …

I knew I wanted to use the sail boats and the striped paper, so I wanted the striped paper to look like it fit the entire front (but I didn’t want to waste the paper you couldn’t see, so I used two 4″ wide x 1″ pieces and centered them at the top and the bottom on the front / base of my card.  The designer paper with the sail boats was cut into the 4-1/4″ x 4″ wide and then I added a touch of Night of Navy to the top and bottom for an added touch of color and to pull the Night of Navy throughout the card.

I then stamped my image “of the guy relaxing” in Night of Navy onto Whisper White … then I used the Aqua Painter to pull in a little color into his shorts and hat.  This helps draw the eye to the focal point of the card.

I was using the “It’s Your Day!” for my greeting but wanted more … so I used two of the rectangles from the Stitched Rectangle dies together to create an interesting visual effect to the card. With that, I used the Stitched Shapes Framelits dies to cut out my greeting … this kept the texture of stitching throughout the card.  To bring another “circle” shape and balance out my card, I used the ships wheel also known as the helm.

So … if you have that guy in your life that loves the beach, sailing or boating of any kind, the combination of “A Good Man” and the “Come Sail Away” Designer paper is a must have.  I will be sharing some of my creations using the Come Sail Away Suite later this week, so I hope you keep back so you don’t miss a thing.

I would love to hear what you would like to see from the new catalog, till then, I’ll keep sharing what I already have stocked up.

Thanks for spending a part of you Monday with me!!

Have a good day and I’ll see you tomorrow.

Simply Sunday … A Good Dad

Hello Stampin’ Friends ~

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, I have not been feeling well and I just took the time off my blog. BUT … I’m back today with a new card from an wonderful new stamp set; A Good Man!

I was thrilled to see the “masculine” stamp sets carry over from the Occasions Catalog and to find this one in the new catalog along side them.  If you haven’t checked it out yet, here is a glimpse of the stamp set ….

You will find “A Good Man” on page 147.  Today’s card is all about being a good dad, perfect for the upcoming Father’s Day holiday.  This simple card will be easy for you to recreate.  I have a list of steps listed below on how I assembled it …

I actually began by choosing a designer paper and I liked the color scheme of the Come Sail Away Designer Series paper. It has a wonderful array of masculine colors; Night of Navy, Balmy Blue, Mossy Meadow, and Soft Suede.

The next step was to determine the size I wanted to stamp (5-1/2″ x 2-3/4″) this size fit my stamped images nicely and gave me room to add a nice embellishment. I used the twine from the Sail Away product suite.  I used Night of Navy to “pop” my stamped images … I used scrap pieces and trimmed them off at 5-1/2″ to align with the stamped image.  You could do the same with the designer paper, as this is a great paper saving technique. The assembly was then mounted onto the Balmy Blue and then the Sahara Sand base.

That’s it … simple!  Oh yes, I forgot to mention that when I stamped the man and child, I used the Aqua Painter right after I stamped the image to pull a little color out and create a focal point that draws your eye to the stamped image.  It was stamped in Night of Navy.

Thanks for hanging out till I got back!!  Be sure to stop back tomorrow, I have another great card using the stamp set “A Good Man”. It’s a step up from today’s card, and I’m sure you’ll love it.

Have an awesome day … It’s Monday!! See you tomorrow.

Guest Stamper: Gloria H.

Hello Stampin’ Friends ~

Today I have yet one more beautiful card from the Magnolia Lane product suite. This card was made by my friend and fellow demonstrator Gloria Helmbrecht.  This was Gloria’s swap card from the Stampin’ Up! Leadership event we attended a few weeks back … with all the pretty samples being shown, I just had to share with you.

Gloria stamped her magnolia image and cut it out using the coordinating dies.  She then creatively colored her magnolia using the watercolor technique.  The flower was then mounted onto the card front that had the stunning Perennial Essence Designer Series Paper.  This designer paper features hand-painted impressionistic imagery in rich colors.

Coordinating colors in the Perennial Designer paper includes. Balmy Blue, Blackberry Bliss, Blueberry Bushel, Calypso Coral, Crushed Curry, Flirty Flamingo, Mossy Meadow, Old Olive, Petal Pink, So Saffron, Whisper White.

I am so excited to share more of the products from the new catalog in the upcoming posts … Is there anything that you would like to see right away? Hopefully I have that item and can share some samples with you.
