Free As A Bird: Spotlighting Technique

Hello Stampin’ Friends ~

Today I’d like to share a card I made a while back that shows how to do the “Spotlight” Technique. I will also be featuring this technique on my Facebook Live tonight … I hope you will join me!

I have chosen to use Basic Black and Whisper White cardstock with a simple stamped image in black to start my card.  Then I stamped my chosen image of the birds on a branch with the Black Momento Ink.  This way when I color the image I’m going to spotlight … it will really stand out! In other words, it spotlights that section of the image.

Another simple spotlighting technique with the fun of coloring, whether you use the watercolor pencils, Stampin’ Write markers or the new Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers you are sure to fall in love with this. Choose an image from your favorite stamp set, I’m using the Free As A Bird stamp set … you will stamp your image twice (or you can cut out the image as I did yesterday to spotlight).

Because I used the Layering Squares Framelits Dies yesterday, I’ve decided to use them again today to cut out and spotlight my part of the image I stamped.  I decided to spotlight the two birds sitting next to each other because my greeting states “We are the best of friends”.

I used the Stampin’ Blends to color my sweet little birds but the watercolor pencils and the markers would work just fine too.  I just love the watercoloring look you get with the stampin’ blends.

Have yourself a wonderful day ~

Thinking of You Card …

Hello Stampin’ Friends,

I am happy to share a beautiful card with you today that I created with the Bird Ballad suite which features the Free as a Bird Bundle.  My card was inspired by two friends, Evelyn from Canada and Becky who is in my downline! I have this amazing suite at home and when I saw what these ladies created, I decided to make one for you!!

April is my birthday month so I also have a “Special” deal for anyone who orders through me … plus, you’ll still receive your Virtual Rewards points! I’ll share more about that later.  Now I would like to introduce you to my Bird Ballad card ….

The card highlights the Laser-cut card with envelopes that come in a pretty tin that you can keep, or give to a friend filled with beautiful cards.  It is just part of the Bird Ballad Suite …

The Bird Ballad Suite Bundle gives you a coordinating selection of products with one simple purchase. It includes the stamp set and tool bundle at 10% off plus one each of the other items listed.

The Bird Ballad Suite Bundle includes
* Free as a Bird Cling Stamp Set (10% off)
* Stitched Nested Labels Dies (10% off)
* Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper
* Bird Ballad Laser-Cut Cards & Tin
* Very Vanilla 3/8″ (1 cm) Scalloped Lace Trim
* Bird Ballad Trinkets

Not only does my card highlight the Laser-cut Cards, it showcases the Bird Ballad Designer Series paper. The Laser-cut cards are beautiful and I really wanted emphasize the delicate lace pattern so I sponged the insert.

The great thing about this card is you can use any color cardstock behind the lace … or you can leave it just the way it is.  I chose my colors based off the colors in the Bird Ballad Designer paper, and YES, I fussy cut out the bird and flowers.  I find it relaxing… and we have plenty of time on our hands!

To create an illusion of depth, I sponged the edges of my Petal Pink cardstock with Calypso Coral and came in much farther on tow of my corners. I just really like this effect.

Here are the ingredients for today’s card … I have listed the entire suite, and then broke it down into the core items I used today …

Supply List

Lets finish up the card … I did fussy cut the bird and flowers from the designer paper and layered the flowers for added dimension.  To complete my card I added some Wink of Stella to the flowers.

Bird Ballad Thanks …

Hello Stampin’ Friends ~

Today I’m sharing another sample created with the Shimmer Detailed Laser-Cut Specialty Paper. Shimmer Detailed Laser-Cut Specialty Paper includes delicately detailed laser-cut sheets with a touch of shimmer. Vanilla on one side, white on the other side. One design is a 12″ x 12″ pattern; the other design has distinct patterns to cut out and use on card fronts.

The laser-cut paper is used over the top of color so it really pops and is framed by using the Layering Squares Dies to create your own frame.

Images in the Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper were hand colored using Stampin’ Blends for a soft, blended look. The birds were cut out of the Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper.  With beautiful birds and colors, you will love this Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper. You can get yours today by clicking the link below.

Lets not forget that our designer papers are on sale right now…

If you scroll back to past posts, you’ll see I have shared many samples from the Bird Ballad, Dinoroar, Magnolia Lane and Come Sail Away Designer Series papers … these are just a few of my favorites.  I have listed the page numbers on the chart above so you can see all the amazing papers.

Let me know if you have any questions about this promotion, todays card or an upcoming class. I’d be happy to answer your questions.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by.

More Shimmer Specialty Paper: Brayer Technique

Hello Stampin’ Friends ~

I am happy to see so many of you enjoyed yesterday’s card made with the Shimmer Detailed Laser-Cut Specialty Paper by Stampin’ Up!  They shared several tips with us on how to use and enhance this beautiful specialty paper.

Today I’m going to share another card featuring the Shimmer Detailed Laser-Cut Specialty Paper using a brayer technique and products from the  wonderful Bird Ballad Suite …

It’s your day, but it’s also so easy to make their day by creating a project that looks like you went that extra mile! Sponge Brayers are a great tool for adding custom color to the Shimmer Detailed Laser-Cut Specialty Paper.

You simply roll they sponge brayer over your ink pad to pick up the color and then roll they brayer back and forth over your Shimmer Detailed Laser-Cut Specialty Paper and you’ll have a beautiful shimmery accent in any color you choose.

HERE’S A GREAT TIP: Roll your brayer and specialty paper onto another piece of cardstock and you will have created a designer piece of paper all your own with the reverse image from your Shimmer Detailed Laser-Cut Specialty Paper!  It won’t have that shimmer but you’ll get 2 designs for the work of one!!

Hope you enjoyed the beautiful card, brayer technique and creative tip today …

Thank you so much for stopping in to visit. If you like my blog … please share it with your friends.  The more the merrier.

Have a wonderful day ~

Free As A Bird: Spotlighting Technique

Hello Stampin’ Friends ~

Happy Monday! Yesterday I shared a simple spotlighting technique using the Bird Ballad Designer paper and said I would share another type of spotlighting technique with you today.  This spotlighting technique is done with hand stamped imagery… and today I’m using the Free As A Bird stamp set…

Simply Sunday: Simple Spotlighting Technique

Hello Stampin’ Friends ~

Hope you’re enjoying your weekend. It’s been nice here lately but rain is in the forecast for today, so it’s a good day to stamp.  If you’re looking for a quick way to make cards with your designer paper and want to add a pop of fun, I love the “Spotlighting” technique! When using your designer papers, there’s no coloring or fuss at all. (Although I do love to color)!

Today I’m using the Bird Ballad Designer paper from the Bird Ballad Suite / Free As A Bird Bundle.  I teamed that up with the Layering Square Framelits (the Stitched Nested Labels Dies come in the suite/bundle).  I also used the Free As A Bird stamp set for my greeting …

To create the spotlighting “with no wasted designer paper” simply cut your designer paper at 4″ x 5-1/4″ … this will give you a nice boarder around your designer paper.  Lay your designer paper onto your die cutter and cut out your desired image, you can see here that I am using the bird to “spotlight” on my card.

Then I simply die cut a coordinating piece of cardstock … I used Early Espresso for my base and mat behind my spotlighted area.  When you place your die cut bird directly from your designer paper and then put it right back in it’s place with a mat behind it … it spotlights that image. Do you see how the images on the cut piece still line up with the images on the background?  Cool right? And Simple.

I love using this technique on our patterned papers that have fun and interesting images.  The spotlighting technique can also be used on your stamped images, and I can share that with you tomorrow!

Thank you for taking time out of your Sunday to visit with me. Hope you found this card helpful and that it inspires you to create some quick -n- easy cards.

Enjoy the rest of your day ~

Free as a Bird …

Hello Stampin’ Friends ~

Happy Friday to you!! Today I have a really cute card to share with you that was created with the Free As A Bird Bundle from the Bird Ballad product suite. If you’ve been on the look out for a great “friend” stamp set, this will most likely be on your Wish List already!  It represents a group of friends and the sentiments are so sweet. If you haven’t see it yet, here it is …

Don’t you think the birds in the Free As A Bird Stamp Set are so cuuuute! Send them to all your friends because you know they deserve it!! And pretty cards are so much more fun than bills in the mailbox … this is sure to cheer someone up or just let them know how much you appreciate them ❤

Today’s card was a swap card from the Stampin’ Up! Leadership event I attended in Terra Haute, Indiana.  I am so sorry that I don’t have the demonstrators name who created this cute card …

I love the introduction of the new catalog … it’s crazy fun! There is so much to share with you.  You will be seeing more of this bundle from me … it will be featured at my Kick Off party which is in the works right now, and probably a class so I can show you a few fun techniques that pair well with this stamp set.

She used the Stitched Nested Labels Dies which is part of the bundle, along with the beautiful Layered Leaves 3-D folder … and you can’t miss the polka dot ribbon, it really ties the card together.

I wish you a wonderful weekend.  I will be in Door County doing a little “planning” and having a little fun!
